The new store opening will be a relocation from its current Inverclyde outlet in Greenock’s Oak Mall. We know more and more customers are booking in store because they want the expertise of our specialists. “We really look forward to welcoming both returning and new customers to our new location. 5. Barrhead Travel were delighted to hear that our partners P&O Cruises have confirmed that they will have another ship joining their fleet in 2020. The ship, at a whopping 180,000 gross tons with a capacity for 5,200 passengers, is set to be the largest cruise ship to be built specifically for the British market. Carnival UK president Josh Weinstein said: “We are seeing the momentum in awareness of cruising both across the media and in our national psyche as ever-increasing numbers of people see first-hand the value for money, unrivalled service and extraordinary onboard experience. “These two next-generation ships for delivery in the next four years are real and tangible evidence of our absolute optimism for future growth.” P&O Cruises senior vice president Paul Ludlow added: “We have a bold and ambitious vision for P&O Cruises to become Britain’s number one holiday choice and we can only do that by increasing our fleet. “The build for our 2020 ship begins this spring and it will offer all generations of British guests the holiday of a lifetime on the next generation of P&O Cruises ships. “In four years’ time when her sister ship is launched, adding an additional 22% capacity, we will see an even greater rise in the popularity of cruising across all demographics and all age ranges including both Millennials and Generation Xers. “Many of them have already learned to appreciate cruising by going on cruises with their families while growing up. Additionally, there are millions more we will attract in the future by retaining the amazing onboard and on-shore experiences and itinerary choices P&O Cruises is known for, while reflecting forward-thinking trends and tastes of British holidaymakers. “This evolution of the guest experience will be evident over the next few years but will be underpinned throughout with in-depth market insight and feedback we receive from the best source: our current, past and prospective guests. “The first of our new ships will go on sale in September and we will be announcing key elements of the design and build this year. “Our P&O Cruises signature features in dining and entertainment will be across all our ships, but the space and build of the two new ships allows us to have innovative new experiences to create the most memorable holidays.” Thomas Weigend, managing director of Meyer Werft, said: “We are very happy to continue our excellent partnership with Carnival Corporation and P&O Cruises.”

    Jamaica Remains Open for Business

Barrhead Travel is pleased to share the below statement from our partners at the Jamaican tourist board. Jamaica remains one of our customers’ favourite holiday destinations and the beautiful Caribbean island boasted visits from over 4.3 million tourists in 2017. "KINGSTON, Jamaica; January 22, 2018 – Jamaica’s Minister of Tourism, the Hon. Edmund Bartlett has again reiterated that Jamaica is safer than ever and the recent state of emergency was called to ensure the Saint James Parish continues to be safe for tourists and locals alike. The reality is that Jamaica remains a safe destination for all tourists and the state of emergency has been put in place as an added precaution and gives greater powers to the police force ensuring that Jamaica maintains its enviable record of safety towards tourists. Bartlett continues “Security, safety and seamlessness is the standard that defines ‘destination Jamaica and the country continues to be very much open for business and we continue to welcome tourists from all over the world to enjoy the warm Jamaican hospitality”. St James is one of 14 parishes in Jamaica and the Minister confirms that the area that has been largely affected by the recent troubles is one that is rarely visited by tourists. These enhanced security measures are not out of the ordinary in international tourism markets and the Jamaican residents have shown great support of this action with a resident from the affected area declaring, “This is the best thing that could have happened at this time”. Jamaica however remains a safe place for tourists. Every year, Jamaica welcomes visitors and volunteers from around the world to enjoy all that Jamaica has to offer. Provisional data shows a record breaking 4.3 million tourists visited Jamaica in 2017, which represents a 12.1 per cent increase over arrivals in 2016."

    Hapag-Lloyd in 2019

It’s only 1 year until Hapag-Lloyd’s twin ships launch and with their combination of traditional expedition, high-end luxury and green technology we at Barrhead Travel are excited, to say the least. Karl Pojer, CEO of Hapag-Lloyd, unveiled details of the 230-passenger ships Thursday at a press gathering in New York City. "If you want to be on top, you have to deliver quality," Pojer said. Some of highlights already revealed include Hanseatic Inspiration will feature three restaurants: a main restaurant, a bistro with outdoor and indoor seating, and a specialty restaurant that will serve a Peruvian-Japanese fusion menu. HanseAtrium, which Pojer calls "the heart of the ship." It will accommodate all 230 passengers, and it includes an ice bar. A second bar will be located in the ships' Observation Lounge. Every sailing will include a minimum of 16 expedition team members, a group comprising biologists, glaciologists, historians and geologists. Ships will feature the 645-square-foot Ocean Academy, a room created purely for education. Nature is a major theme for the ships. Color schemes are inspired by nature's hues, and the environment was an important consideration. The ships will feature onboard sewage treatment systems, for example. They are certified for the highest ice class available for passenger ships, so they can safely sail the Arctic and Antarctic. "We thought our project should be inspired by nature," Pojer said. The ships will feature six different cabin types, including 14 junior suites and four grand suites. All are outside cabins, so no passenger will miss the view even when in their rooms.

    Cruise and Stay Holidays

If you’re new to the cruising world it can be a little daunting trying to find the right ship that caters for all the family’s needs that also goes to the right destinations. So we can imagine wondering if you should add in a land stay before or after your cruise might add more pressure. That being said we’re her to help you with information and pros of why a cruise and stay holiday might be for your family. What is a Cruise & Stay Holiday? The Caribbean is one of the most popular places to cruise. With itineraries mainly starting in ports such as Miami or Florida many people miss out in seeing these ports as they are just the “starting point”. Cruise and Stay holidays eliminate that issue. Example: 3 nights pre cruise will allow you to see your port destination, explore the area, do some tours then board your cruise for your Caribbean itinerary. The Benefits of Cruise and Stay There are 1001 reasons that cruise and stay holidays are so popular however we’ll keep it brief and list you our top 3 reasons. 1. You get two holidays in one. You get to have your fast paced/slow paced break before where you can explore the city/town at your leisure followed by your multi destination cruise. 2. You can add as many nights are you like before or after your cruise. (A popular one with families is 7 nights in Orlando followed by a 7 night cruise) 3. Bespoke packages just for you – you choose when you cruise and when you stay.

How do you book your excursions?

Many people like to book excursions locally as it appears to be cheaper. I personally like to book in advance, for few different reasons: 1) You avoid disappointment - Example: If you are looking to do "THE RIDE" in New York, if you don't book in advance you will likely have to get up at the crack of dawn to que for your ticket, if you even manage to get one that is. 2) If you are on a certain budget while you are on holiday you don't have to be taking money for tours out of you "spending money". How do book your excursions? Have you had any excursion horror stories when booking before or during your holiday?

A firm favourite amongst UK holidaymakers, Greece remains one of the most popular destinations of 2018. However, as of 1st January 2018, the Greek Ministry of Tourism have introduced mandatory Overnight Stay Tax which all tourists must pay on arrival at their hotel. This isn’t an uncommon tax; many countries already have local taxes in place –travellers to mainland Europe and beyond will have already experienced this in plenty of destinations. You’ll pay between 0.5 and 4 euros per night, depending on your type of accommodation – we’ve included a handy table below which lets you know what charges you will have to pay.

Time Travel is a Real Thing

So Hawaiian Airlines have done what no other airline could have and took their passengers back in time, sort of. Flight HA446 took off at 12:05am on January 1st 2018 and, due to crossing multiple time zones, landed in Hawaii at 9:45am on 31st January 2017. A little confused on how this happened? Us too, however its easily explained. As the flight crossed international date lines it meant the flight skipped back a whole day. Have you ever been on a "time travelling flight"? We'd love to hear about it if you have
