Getting around British Columbia?

Recommended Posts

I'm strongly thinking of visiting Vancouver next year. How easy is to get around British Columbia? Would I need a hire car or is there good train links (I can't afford Rocky Mountaineer).

I am just back from Vancouver and it is an amazing city!

I would say the best way is by hire car if you can. There are so many amazing views to stop and admire at your own pace. Unfortunately there are no trains running through BC to Alberta apart from the Rocky Mountaineer.

I would say it also depends where in BC you are travelling - for somewhere like Vancouver Island car is really your only option. If you are only travelling between Vancouver and Whistler you can easily jump on a coach transfer (recommended to pre-book). If you're thinking about travelling further afield through the Rockies and in to Alberta there are some Greyhound links but I would always recommend a car if you can :)

@Megan@BarrheadTravel Thanks Megan! That was what my research was flagging up anyway but it is nice to have it confirmed by someone who has recently been :)

What did you get up to in Vancouver - anything I should definitely check out?
